Maximize Demosphere - November 2011
The November edition of Maximize Demosphere focused on YouTube and Optimizing It For Your Organization and is featured below. Click to download a copy of the slides in PDF format. The slides are available to view as well with no narration.
During the YouTube Best Practices Session for youth sports organizations, we discussed how to get started on YouTube, YouTube best practices, and future content ideas.
- Getting Started: A new user can set up a YouTube account quite quickly. However, Demosphere encourages you to customize the following:
- Profile Picture - Set your organization's logo as the profile picture.
- Profile Colors - Adjust colors to match your general color scheme or get specific.
- Profile - Include your organization's mission statement and a link to your website.
- Tags - Set channel tags appropriately for the videos you intend to publish.
- Friends - Be sure to display friends on your channel.
- YouTube Best Practices: When posting videos, these collection of best practices will help you maximize your exposure and opportunities.
- Engage Your Community - Make sure comments are enabled by default. Delete anything offensive. YouTube's community guidelines help keep things in check.
- Utilize Playlists - Help first-time viewers sort your videos by organizing playlists of key topics ... otherwise, they'll just appear in one big list.
- Insights - Track video popularity, how people found it, and use this data to optimize your content moving forward - produce what people want and like!
- Watch YouTube - Learn by seeing what others are doing!
- Be Genuine - Don't be a robot - be human. YouTube is a place you can have fun, too!
- Combine Channels - Make sure videos are posted on your website. Link to them on Facebook. Tweet about them. You get the idea!
- Promote - Send an email note to your membership. Subscribe to other channels. Issue a press release. Make sure people know about your new (and ongoing) presence!
- Update Frequently - Be sure your channel isn't stale. Aim to update it at least once a week.
- Future Content Ideas: The session concluded with a collection of future content ideas to help grow your content in the future.
- Content - Good topics for posting include training tips, coaching tips, events, vlogs, interviews with key staff members, behind the scenes, and more.
- Be Creative - How can you spread your video virally? Remember, that's the overall goal - exposure! Maybe offer a contest where users must submit a video to enter? Juggling? Dribbling? Something else?
Feel free to watch the recording of the session and/or download the slides. We hope you can join us for a future session!
