Last Friday, an intriguing New York Times column caught my eye. The column discusses the 2.5 million volunteers that coach youth sports in the United States each year. Of them, less than 10% receive any formal training. This leads to a high attrition rate - 70-80% of youth drop out of sports after middle school, mostly because they aren't fun any longer.

Since 1998, the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) has aimed to reduce that rate by changing youth sports. Each year, PCA hosts hundreds of training sessions nationwide for youth coaches with the goal of providing a positive, character-building experience for all youth athletes.
