Big congratulations go out to the SCIO Foundation, headed by Demosphere's own Charly Ovando, for its exceptional work during the holiday season.

Geared towards helping children in Ovando's native Bolivia, the 2011 Christmas Charity Campaign motto was "Help and Love Children." Through many generous donations, SCIO was able to provide a meal, a few books, and a Christmas present to over 2,000 children in six towns across three states in Bolivia. For more than 90% of the children, the gift was the only such present they received in 2011.

Next week, Demosphere travels to Kansas City for the NSCAA Convention. Each January, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) holds a national convention that is regarded as the largest annual soccer gathering in the United States.

As part of the nearly week-long Convention, Demosphere serves as presenting sponsor of the New Media Mixer, an opportunity for soccer bloggers to get together, interact, share stories, and learn from one another. The event takes place on Friday, January 13 at 11:00am at 12 Baltimore, just minutes from the Convention Center. Now in its second year, the New Media Mixer is set to become a permanent fixture of the NSCAA Convention.

For the first time in many years, the United Soccer Leagues AGM was back at the beach - Clearwater Beach to be specific, for three days of meetings and awards.

In addition to league meetings and the annual awards dinner, the event also hosted a Beach Soccer rules course as well as the Major Beach Soccer National Championships. Clearwater Beach was a very able host with meeting rooms and sand for beach soccer in close proximity.
